Comicon Craftiness

Being the Crafty Geek around here, I took a walk through Artist Alley at Toronto Comicon to see what new and exciting things people are making these days.

Seeing as the main guests were the stars of Star Trek: TNG, let’s begin with some cool stuff revolving around that.

This is a laser etched Enterprise on plexiglass by the guys at Pixel Dreams. Cool right? You could actually win it at the con!

They also do posters, and printed layouts of ships on transparency film.

I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t include some sort of Doctor Who reference. How do I look? YOU WILL BE UPGRADED…

Modulicious take premade helmets and repaint them. They seem to specialize in the ever growing popularity of Steampunk style.

They also have taken to customizing MUNNY’s into something they call Growbots.

Ahhhh…ponies. My Little Pony has gained popularity again since they launched the new series. These are some adorable crochet works from Crochet Is Magic.

In keeping with the cuteness, Squire Sword Studios do these little standee people in pretty much any character you can think of!

Also in the cuteness isle, some perler bead art by Cheshire Grynne including an AWESOME art piece of one of my favourite Supernatural people!

On the Steampunk train (get it? Steampunk? TRAIN? Bloody hell I’m such a geek!) Adam Smith at Sword In The Stone has been gaining more and more popularity with his Steampunk inspired props. This man is not new to prop and costume making, his work is all over the film/tv industry. Keep an eye out for him at his Steam On Queen event in June.

If you need some Steampunk inspired jewelry to wear at the event, check out the art pieces by Chibi Seimei Inc.

Last but not least, I bring you to the Can’t Stop The Serenity booth. These guys are awesome, moreso if you’re a Firefly fan! The Toronto team does screenings of the movie Serenity and at the same time raise money for Joss Whedon’s charity of choice, Equality Now. You can get tickets for the screening and find more info about them at http://www.torontobrowncoats.com/. I’m happy to say I’m involved with them – I provide my product to raise funds and part of the proceeds go to the charity. You can check out my work here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/darklydesigned.

But I’m not the only one who does cool things as part of the charity, these awesome artists do too!

The Painted Parasol make little wooden peg people and have just added Dragon Eggs!

Sew Tara have some of the most awesome cup cozies I’ve ever seen! I mean, if you have a coffee every day like I do, why WOULDN’T you want to make a statement with it?

Get out there and get crafty people!!
