Charlie Cox to play Daredevil
Marvel has announced their new Daredevil. The man without fear will be played by Charlie Cox when Marvel premiers it’s new Daredevil series on Netflix next year. Daredevil is just one of four series being developed for Netflix by Marvel. Along with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist; Daredevil will lead into a mini-series about The Defenders which will be shot in Hell’s Kitchen, New York, the home of these characters. Marvel reclaimed the rights to Daredevil back in August of 2012 following contract negotiations with FOX over rights to the The Fantastic Four. At the time FOX had until October 10th of that year to start filming, or they would lose the rights to Daredevil. Marvel was willing to extend the deadline if FOX would give up the Silver Surfer and Galactus (as they’re packaged with the Fantastic Four). FOX opted to keep the rights to the Surfer, and in doing so Marvel regained Daredevil.
Charlie Cox will play Matt Murdock, the a lawyer whose blindness causes his other senses to be heightened and he becomes the superhero Daredevil. Cox is best known for his role as Owen Slater on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, and he also played Tristan in the film adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel Stardust. Here is an excerpt from Marvel’s announcement:
Marvel is proud to announce that acclaimed actor Charlie Cox has joined “Marvel’s Daredevil,” an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. Best known for his acclaimed work in “Boardwalk Empire” and “Stardust,” Cox will play Matt Murdock, the lead role in this all-new Marvel Television series. Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.
