Channing Tatum Cast as Gambit
X-Men fans have been waiting for a Gambit movie since X-Men Origins: Wolverine teased us with the character five years ago. This week on the X-Men Days of Future Past red carpet producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed not only that Gambit’s spin-off is going to happen, but that Channing Tatum has been cast as the Cajun.
When Total Film asked Donner about the casting, she replied “It is Channing, yes. Yes.” She went on to talk about why Tatum is the right choice, “Well you know he’s a rogue, Channing, he’s a rascal just like Remy Le Beau. So, and he can handle the action, we all know that.” She’s right about that. Tatum’s known for his action heavy roles in G.I. Joe and White House Down where he kicked some ass. She continued to talk about Tatum’s other credentials, “he’s a southerner too. He’s not from New Orleans, but he is a southerner, he understands that world. And you know Gambit loves New Orleans.”
It looks like Hugh Jackman won’t get his wish; in case you missed it, he named Tatum as his ideal replacement when he retires from the role of Wolverine (you can read about it here.) Instead he’ll bring Remy Le Beau to life, and I’m excited to see it happen. I think Tatum has the swagger to pull off Gambit’s suave charisma. What do you guys think? Is Tatum the right guy to play the Cajun? Let us know.
