BRINK: SHOOTER OR SWORD FIGHT?

I was totally stoked when BRINK was announced. It looked awesome and appeared to be different from other shooters. They promised to have the most “revolutionary character customization” with “near-limitless possibilities.” Near-limitless eh? So, where are all the vaginas?

No females? Are developers seriously still letting this happen?

Their excuse went something like this:

Richard Ham: From the outset, we wanted to create a character customization system that was so deep and varied that you would never run into another player that looked exactly like you. As we got deeper into development, we were faced with an incredibly tough choice: massively cut back the amount of customization options as well as the quality of the assets, or cut female models.

Ultimately, we didn’t want to compromise our initial vision of having incredibly varied character customization without hurting the artistic quality, so we decided to only focus on male customization and make that the best we possibly can. This was a very, very hard decision for us to make, but we feel that it was the right one for the overall quality of the game.

Nice official answer Dick, but was choosing to shoot yourself in the foot by ignoring 40% of your target market worth the extra tribal tattoos and shitty facial hair?

Even if female models do become available as future DLC, prepare yourself to pay for it. As a consumer, I don’t appreciate being gouged $70 for a half-assed game and then being asked to pay more money for “extras” that should have been included out of the box.
