Blade, Punisher and Ghost Rider all back home with Marvel

The only thing upsetting about Marvel movies is the fact that Marvel doesn’t own the film rights to a large chunk of its comic book characters. It’s the reason Spider-Man can’t swing into the Avengers and the X-Men are off doing their own thing with Fox Studios but that’s slowly changing. In April we found out that Marvel now had movie rights for Daredevil and this week Marvel took another awesome leap forward and reacquired the rights to Blade, The Punisher and Ghost Rider.

President of Production at Marvel Studios Kevin Feige announced the acquisition in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly but seemed less than enthusiastic about the possibility of seeing this badass trio of anti-heroes on the big screen again any time soon.

“Whenever a character comes back to us, it’s usually because the other studios don’t want to make the movies anymore – and that usually means the [previous] movies may not have been particularly well-received. They all have potential, but we’re not going to say ‘We got it back – make it.'”

So even though Blade, Punisher and Ghost Rider are back home with Marvel, it doesn’t look like they’ll be leaving the house to come out and play any time soon.

If you’ve got a hankering for some Punisher right now though I highly recommend the deliciously violent, unofficial Punisher short, Dirty Laundry, starring the second Punisher himself, Thomas Jane, and be sure to give us a shout in the comments to let us know what you think of it.
