All the Awesome: Things to See at Unplugged Expo
This weekend marks the return of UNPLUGGED EXPO! Here’s a rundown of some of the things to see and do!
Located at the Chestnut Conference Center (89 Chestnut st), with an entrance fee of $35/$25/$20 (weekend/Saturday/Sunday), the convention runs this Saturday (10am – 1am) and Sunday (11am – 6pm)
20 Years of Power Rangers!
Including Black Power Ranger Johnny Yong Bosch
Johnny Yong Bosch (Black Ranger), Kevin Duhaney (White Dino Thunder Ranger), Jeff Parazzo (Blue Dino Thunder Ranger), will be talking about 20 years of the show. There will also be opportunities for photo ops and autographs.
Think you’re the biggest fan? Play:”Can You Morph?” How well can you do the all important hand gestures – compete to find out!
Meet several of the voice actors of the DIC dubbed version of Sailor Moon; check out merchandise with Moon Chase; Sailor Moon Memories reading by author/voice actor/director of the DIC version, Roland Parliament; Two takes on voicing Artemis (Sailor Venus’ cat advisor); and of course discussion about Sailor Moon Crystal!
Games (Video & Table Top)
There are a lot of gaming panels this time around including panels on… Video Games: The Past & Present (hosted by Sasha David), Retro/Game Discussion (with Youtube’s ReRez, Erika Szabo & Epic Game Music), eSports, Mass Effect, “Game Consoles you probably have never heard of!”, League of Legends, Beyblade, and more. Or you can just play everything from the latest video games to a good old fashioned round of MAGIC: The Gathering.
Geeky Entertainment
Video games aren’t the only source of entertainment. The weekend includes performances and activities including: The Dandies (creators of Holodeck Follies), Karaoke, Anime Idol singing competition, Geek Speed Dating, DJ Janos, Video Games: The Movie screening, and much much more.
D.I.Y.
Are you a creator of awesome? Do you want to be? Check out panels on Vlogging, Youtube stars, cosplay (wigs, makeup, Cosplay on a budget, etc), writing fiction, getting into voice acting, basics of vfx by Jennifer Maillet (Orphan Black, Penny Dreadful, Harry Potter), Crowdsourcing, LARPing, and a number of other topics.
Saturday night the fun doesn’t stop. Check out (or participate in) the Cosplay Masquerade, then listen to Epic Game Music, turning the theme songs of your childhood into danceable tunes, and keep on dancing to D.J. Janos!
