Avengers Now!
The hits keep rolling at Marvel Comics. With the announcements of recent changes, it looks like Marvel is revamping the Avengers.
On the Colbert Report, July 17th, 2014, Marvel editor Joe Quesada announced that Captain America would also change. His buddy, Sam Wilson aka. The Falcon, would be picking up the shield for Steve Rogers. He won’t be the first African American Captain America, but will he be a better Captain America? What else does Marvel have in store for earth’s mightiest heroes?
Comic fans got a sneak peak into the future of the Avengers. Entertainment Weekly dropped a splash page of the new cast of Avengers. There are some big changes, and some familiar faces. Bucky Barnes, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man and the Scarlet Witch are still members; however, there are still more changes coming. Deathlok, Angela, and a new Iron Man suit are set to change the Avengers once more.
Fans will have to wait until the end of 2014, before we start getting more in depth with the new team and characters. The changes to the big three is well timed, with Thor and Cappy undergoing major alterations, is Marvel waiting for San Diego Comic-Con to announce the last major Avengers change?
(Ed’s note: Nope! Marvel just announced Superior Iron Man. In the aftermath of the upcoming AXIS event Tony lets his darker impulses run wild, and we get a new series featuring this newer, ego driven Iron Man. Marvel’s Editor in Chief had this to say about the change: “What you’re seeing in Superior Iron Man is a Tony Stark who’s seen both his worst and best impulses all let loose. It is Tony, but he’s going to be in a zone now where he’s never been. He’s more ambitious, cunning, egotistical … all of those quantities are unharnessed. He has a vision for the world.”)
What do you thing of the new changes to Thor, Captain America, and the rest of the Avengers? Do you think Wilson is going to surpass Steve Rogers as the Captain? Is the new Thor going last in the comics universe? Where the heck is the Hulk in that splash page? Let us know in the comments below?
