The Aquaman Cometh…played by Jason Momoa!
To every Aquaman fan who has spent their lives defending the King of the Seas against the cries of “But Aquaman is so lame!”… today, you are victorious.
Although the rumor has been flying around this summer that the aquatic hero will be played by Jason Momoa, the news has caught on and it looks official. The native Hawaiin actor is no stranger to playing warriors, with Game of Thrones‘ Khal Drogo and the recent Hollywood reboot of Conan the Barbarian under his belt.
Ever since the character was brought into public consciousness by the super-campy 70’s and 80’s cartoon Super Friends, generations of fans have questioned the usefulness and power of Aquaman. With the news that the warrior and surfer dude Momoa will helm the role for the upcoming Batman vs. Superman, hopefully those complaints will become a thing of the past.
Although the upcoming clash of DC’s heroes is being met with skepticism, namely the concern that DC and WB are cramming in too many characters at once, the advantage that the company has is that the general public may be more likely to already know some of DC’s more prominent characters like the Justice League’s core members. Through branding with merchandise and television shows like Super Friends, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, and Batman: The Animated Series being produced over the past few decades, hence it may not be necessary to re-introduce the likes of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman to audiences.
In addition to his role as the Aquatic King, Momoa is also starring in the coming of age/horror film Wolves, written and directed by David Hayter and awaiting release this summer.
Still no confirmation here…
