Another Torontonian in the DC TV Universe!
This week’s “The Flash”, entitled Power Outage, starred another Toronto actor Michael Reventar as Blackout (Farooq) and he decided to have a viewing party open to 300 of his closest friends, along with many Twitter/Facebook winners!
The event was held at Andrew Richard Designs, near Toronto’s Distillery District with a DJ spinning tunes plus a table full of candy and snacks (freelance reporters notice such things).
Before the show, there was a Skype message both from the S.T.A.R. Labs team of Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow), Tom Cavanagh (Dr. Wells), Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon), and the Flash himself, Grant Gustin; and from Central City’s best detective team of Rick Cosnett (Eddie Thawne) and Jesse L. Martin (Joe West). Both groups wanted to welcome and congratulate Michael on the episode.
Our friends at The Silver Snail had a table with Flash and DC inspired merchandise, as well as creating a Blackout inspired background for photos with Reventar.
During commercial breaks Vital Anthony, a childhood friend of Reventar, was MCing and giving away prizes for those who knew answers to trivia, including the question what was Reventar’s first television appearance. That answer? Tiny Talent Time with a dance routine done to Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean! (He was only five at the time.)
It was great to see an actor being able to share a prime time role with so many friends and supporters, which ranged from his parents to dozens of children under ten. After the screening, Michael apologized to the parents afterwards about the violence in the episode- watching his character’s arc had upset many of the kids who knew him. He also took a moment to thank those who’ve supported him and like Arrow’s Stephen Ammell, to talk about community and all the good it can do. While Blackout power was to suck energy out of places and people, Reventar’s seems to be to create it.
We all look forward to seeing more of this actor!
