Anime North 2014: Saturday Cosplay Gallery

Saturday is the biggest day at any convention, which means the Saturday at Anime North 2014 is downright insane. But with all the excited fans and fabulous cosplayers, it’s like one big crazy cartoon family!

Being the biggest day of one of Canada’s biggest nerd events, I was extremely busy all day chasing down people in costumes to photograph. The most inspiring thing is seeing how many people of different skill levels of experience, coming from unique backgrounds and walks of life can all come together and express themselves with some wacky, but still pretty and awesome creations.

Included in the heyday of happenings on Saturday was the masquerade competition, where fans get to bravely come forward and show off their best costumes for the chance to win some cool prizes, the recognition of their peers, and a spiffy ribbon to show off to their friends and family. What made this year’s masquerade particularly great was that the majority of entries were from the Novice division of costumery skill and experience. It was unbelievable seeing how stunning people looked, when for many it was their first time competing, or even making a costume!
