And The 2013 Record Store Day Ambassador Is… Jack White!

418455222648“Owns a record store. CHECK. Heads a record label. CHECK. Makes all kinds of records. CHECK. We can think of no one better to fly the flag for Record Store Day 2013, can you?” – Record Store Day, 2013

No actually, I can’t. Following predecessors like Iggy Pop, Ozzy Osborne, Josh Homme and, well, himself there really is no one more suited for the job of Record Store Day Ambassador than Jack White. The man’s been known to fill records with water just because he can, and this past year White has released tons of records on his Third Man label, including his own raved about solo album, Blunderbuss.

Pairing him with the day that’s a music geek’s equivalent to ComiCon or Christmas, only makes sense and White feels he’s ready for the title:

Years ago someone told me that 1,200 high school kids were given a survey. A question was posed to them: Have you ever been to a stand-alone record shop? The number of kids that answered “yes” was… zero.

As Record Store Day Ambassador of 2013 I’m proud to help in any way I can to invigorate whoever will listen with the idea that there is beauty and romance in the act of visiting a record shop and getting turned on to something new that could change the way they look at the world, other people, art, and ultimately, themselves.

Let’s wake each other up.

Read the rest on Record Store Day’s website, and watch Jack White give you an insiders view on how records are really made. Make sure you catch all of it though, there will be a quiz. 😉

Record Store Day falls on April 20 this year, so head on out and support your local independents.
