Amityville: The Awakening Trailer
The Amityville Horror saga is the original “Paranormal Activity” and one of the best known series in horror movies. Now it is returning to the big screen with Amityville: The Awakening. The original series, which launched in 1979, terrified audiences with 4 movies in the initial run as well as several off shoot movies throughout the 90’s. The franchise was relaunched in 2005 with a remake of the original which starred Ryan Reynolds and did really well at the box office, as well as introduced a whole new generation to this saga. Overall, I’d say the terror in these films pale in comparison to the true story of what actually happened in Amityville with the DeFeo murders in 1974, but hey that’s just me. The trailer looks pretty freaky and I was frankly surprised to find out they were doing another installment in the franchise. This may be something special, though, by the looks of the trailer. You be the judge.
The cast is promising and features veteran actors like Jennifer Jason Leigh (Fast Times at Ridgemount High) and Kurtwood Smith (Robocop, That 70’s Show) as well as Bella Thorne who is making her starring role debut in a film as she is known more for her television roles on such shows as Dirty Sexy Money and Big Love. In addition, it is being brought to us by the people who made “Insidious“, “Sinister” and “Paranormal Activity” so it may be fair to assume there will be at least a few scares. They are looking to release this in January, which makes absolutely no sense but hey, who the fuck am I? You would think they’d have something like this ready for Halloween, but no. Someone over in Hollywood really “screwed the pooch” on that one. No bother, though. When the cold January rolls around, I’m glad I’ll have something to potentially scare the crap out of me and I’m sure this will do alright at the box office as well.
