An Agents of SHIELD Spin-Off? Yes Please!
My fellow Agents of SHIELD fans, look how far we’ve come! From the rocky, freak-of-the-week structure at the beginning of season one, to the subtle and rewarding tie-ins to the cinematic universe when the show embraced the threat of Hydra after the mid-season finale. We have had to endure two-dimensional characters, and ridiculous villains, all in the name of Coulson and his team. Now, season two has brought a new life to the show that we love and we have been gifted with amazing new characters and intriguing new story arcs; in fact, the show is so successful that there is talk of a spin-off series!
This season has brought us some remarkable actors playing dynamic roles; Kyle MacLachlan is Skye’s father, Edward James Olmos has appeared as Coulson’s rival Robert Gonzales, and Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood emerged as fan favourites Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter. Bobbi, aka Mockingbird, quickly won fans over, and her tumultuous on-again off-again relationship with Hunter provided a juicy side-plot amidst the political intrigue and superhero action of the rest of the show. They are such intriguing characters that they’ve been named as the focus for the spin-off. Fans will know that this season of Agents has seen a huge division between Bobbi and Hunter, making their characters and romance all the more interesting. While the spin-off has not yet been greenlit, the studio is planning a sexy, spy drama, reportedly like Mr. and Mrs. Smith. This template suits Bobbi and Hunter well since both are very familiar with espionage and betrayal. While there is still a fair chance that they won’t even shoot a pilot; Marvel has been so successful in television that we can likely look forward to more SHIELD by next fall.
