Creator of Supernatural is developing DC’s Deadman Comic for TV
The CW has been in the market for a new superhero show since Smallville finished its ten year run this season. It was just announced that the creator of Supernatural, Eric Kripke, another long running sci-fi/fantasy hit will be developing DC’s Deadman comic books into a drama series for the CW.
At the TCAs last month CW prez Mark Pedowitz mentioned that the CW would be in the market for a new superhero show, and how great it is to have DC comics as part of the family (a Warner Bros and CBS joint venture). He also mentioned that this new programming may be used to relaunch original Sunday night programming on the CW, so I guess it’s kinda a big deal.
Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves, this project is still in development, but it’s interesting news as Smallville just ended its run and the channel’s other sci-fi venture Supernatural is quite mature going into it’s seventh season. Network television has been headed towards adding more and more genre content as of late, taking a look at this years 2011/2012 prime time scheduling makes this abundantly clear. The CW does know how to treat it’s genre shows, so this could certainly be something to keep an eye on.
ABC (who shares a parent company with Marvel in Disney) recently announced that they will be featuring a Marvel superhero, probably The Hulk on their hit show Castle this fall, and will be working to develop a superhero show of their own using their relationship with Marvel.
How do you feel about the adaptation of the Deadman series for television? Would you watch it? Or is it still too early to tell?
