I Want To Believe: The X-Files May Be Returning to Fox

The X-Files was one of the greatest series of the 90s. I mean, what a show. Aliens, ghosts, creatures, viruses, government conspiracies and cover ups – it was like the modern day Twilight Zone. EVERY FRIDAY I would watch that show, never missing an episode. To be honest, most of the kids my age thought my obsession with the X-Files was strange, but what did they know anyways? I was a geek, and proud of it. The show ran it’s course and they’ve since put out a couple of movies, but this week, the network that originally aired the show FOX was talking about possibly rebooting the original series with Duchovney and Anderson in tow.

Over the years, David Duchovney and Gillian Anderson have talked about how or if the series could come back, but it was all unofficial until this week when at Fox’s presentation during the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Pasadena, the network announced that talks have opened up about the re-hash officially . In addition, Fox TV Group Chairman Gary Newman says he’s “hopeful” about the prospects.

There are no details about the show yet – if it’d just continue where it left off or be a complete reboot. Needless to say, if original creator Chris Carter is on board, there are endless cases for Mulder and Scully to solve. It is not just one of the greatest sci-fi shows of all time, it is, in my opinion, one of the greatest shows of all time period. Sure, it lagged a bit in the last couple seasons, and the movies were definitely not amazing, but enough time has passed that I think it could be really fresh. The entire original cast is still kicking around, so this could really be something special. The world needs Mulder and Scully so I really hope this happens. It’s surely something to keep an eye on.
