New All Female Ghostbusters Movie Confirmed
There have been a lot of rumors swirling around for many years about if there will be another installment in the Ghostbusters saga. When original creator, writer, and star Harold Ramis passed away this year, it was unclear what would happen to the franchise. Today, some questions have been answered.
According to the twitter account of the creator of Freaks and Geeks and Bridesmades, Paul Feig, he has signed on to write and direct the new Ghostbusters film and it will feature an all female cast: “It’s official. I’m making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That’s who I’m gonna call.” It was also reported today by The Hollywood Reporter that the movie will in fact have nothing to do with the original series and will be re-launching the franchise from scratch using an all female cast.
For years it was uncertain if there would ever be another Ghosbusters film mostly to the fact that Bill Murray was simply not interested. The original cast came together for the first time in a long time to do voices for the game a few years back, but a movie seemed like it was just not in the cards. Creator and star Harold Ramis passing away also basically makes it impossible to re hash the original series.
Bill Murray has given his blessing for the re-launch and says that if it were up to him Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Emma Stone, and Linda Cardellini would be the stars of the flick. No casting has been announced yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if any or all of Murray’s picks will be in the movie – and don’t be surprised if any of the original Ghostbusters are featured as well. I know that some people may not be too thrilled with this, but I personally feel it could be really wicked and will bring a big female audience to the Ghosbusters.
Who YOU gonna call?! 😉
