COSPLAY: Alex Mercer by Zacloudseth
Toronto cosplayer Zacloudseth channels his inner anti-hero to bring us this awesome Alex Mercer costume from Prototype.
While at work, he tackled building the Blade arm.
I doodled a quick design, had some cardboard, and began to build the main blade piece. After I was done, I made the tentacles out of rolled up newsprint. The entire building process took me one night shift. I then took it home and covered it in wallpaper glue and newsprint, primed it and did a quick paint job.
Although the prop is bulky, he said it is extremely lightweight.
At PAX East, everyone who asked or showed interest in the blade had to wear it or investigate it,” he said. “Everyone was pretty baffled how light it was and that it was cardboard.
In order to get in character and get inspired, Zaclouseth listened to the game soundtrack.
When I build the props or costumes for a character, I’ll always have music from the series playing during the duration of the progress. At this point I probably sound like the worst employee ever, listening to music, making props at work.
When at a convention he continues to use music as a means to channel the character and the feel of the game.
Music always has this ability to transport me to different times in my life. The energy of the album or certain songs also helps when cosplaying certain characters. It also helps when you have such amazing and talented photographers taking your pictures.
