G33KPRON @ Toronto Comic Con 2013
This past weekend, GEEKPR0N attended Toronto Comic Con presented by Fan Expo Canada.
Even though it was considerably smaller than its sister con, Fan Expo Canada, an hour after the doors opened we overheard that the convention had sold out for Saturday. Grave news for the people lined up down Lower Simcoe who seemed to have no idea.
After making our way down to the lower bowels of the MTCC, we stepped onto the convention floor. Elbow to elbow, people shuffled along the aisles trying to get a look at the various vendors and artists. Unfortunately, with such a sardine-like experience it was difficult to get a really good look at anything let alone have a conversation with anyone about their work.
The main attraction, the cast of Star Trek: TNG was obviously the busiest portion of the convention. We were not able to get very close to them but, we did have the pleasure of seeing Patrick Stewart on the street on his way into the MTCC, a moment we will cherish forever and always.
Over-all we were a little disappointed this year. There wasn’t much to see other than the cast of Star Trek and to be honest, I’m a little confused as to why the main guests at a comic convention were of the Sci-fi genre. There also wasn’t much interaction in the way of booths or panels, and even the cosplay was a bit lacking.
But it wasn’t all bad, our favorite part of the convention was getting to chat up all the awesome con-goers that went out of their way to come and say hi and take pictures with us. You guys made it all worth it.
If you missed Toronto Comic this year, no worries. Despite a weak start to convention season, I have faith that the other Cons this year will more than make up for it.
See you on the floor!
