Do You Like Free Comics?

What am I saying?  Of course you like free comics!

Coming off the heels of Toronto’s Comicon (be sure to check out our coverage on the main page) is a big announcement from Marvel regarding their digital comic store.  Until tomorrow (March 12th @ 11am EST) Marvel is giving away every single “#1” they’ve ever printed for free!  That’s over 700 comics free.  Here’s what the press release had to say:

In an unprecedented new reader initiative, Marvel Comics unleashes Marvel #1, an offering of over 700 first issues from the length and breadth of the company’s history at no charge. This special promotion begins Sunday March 10 and runs until 11PM Eastern Time on Tuesday, March 12 as free downloads via the Marvel Comics app and Marvel Comics Digital Comics Shop.

“We have a lot of #1 issues from every era,” says Gabriel of the offering. “There is a great mix of recent comics—such as UNCANNY AVENGERS, ALL-NEW X-MEN, CIVIL WAR, AVENGERS VS. X-MEN—in here alongside classic #1’s—AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, FANTASTIC FOUR, CAPTAIN AMERICA COMICS—so I’m confident in saying that no matter the era or the character you’re going to be very happy.

The only downside I can see to this promotion is that you have to download every issue individually.  Apart from the tedium in clicking “download” 700+ times, this is still a pretty sweet deal.  What’s good to note is that it also includes all the #1s that popped up over the years when they gave each title a makeover and restarted the counter.  Doing a quick search on the app resulted in 56 “Issue #1” for Spiderman alone so that should give you some idea of the breadth of this promotion.

So take the opportunity to check out some new titles you may have been avoiding, or go back in time and relive some of the greatest moments in comic book history.  Remember you only have until tomorrow morning to take advantage of this offer, so choose wisely and enjoy the free comics!
