Cool Lego Things: Hogwarts, “Holy Crap” Edition.

MOAR LEGO! This time, something that puts my pitiful out-of-the-box Hogwarts Castle to shame.

So, so much shame.

Alice Finch, a mother of two, realized like many of us that Lego is still totally rad. Another part of her yearned for something more that the official Harry Potter Lego sets had yet to provide.

Enter the most amazing Lego thing of life, a complete model of Hogwarts and other buildings in the Potterverse made up of 400,000 pieces of Lego and spanning almost 13 feet across.

IT EVEN LIGHTS UP.

Here’s a quote from Alice about the project:

I started building about 5 years ago when I was spending a lot of time with my older son in our Lego room. He was doing the building; I was doing the sorting and putting away. After a while, I realized that I really wanted to build too. I haven’t built since I was a kid and once I started building again, it occurred to me that building with my son had important implications. We were spending time together doing something creative, learning techniques and sharing ideas in a very productive way, and, although I didn’t really think about it at the time, I was showing him that moms can be pretty darn good at putting bricks together too.

There are currently 79 photos in Alice’s Flickr account, but I made a quick gallery to give you a taste of the absolute bonkers amazingness of this thing.

The model won both the People’s Choice and Best in Show awards at BrickCon 2012, which is apparently a very difficult thing to do.

I’ll stop talking. You need to see these pictures. I’m so jealous.
