First Image & Trailer Description from the ‘Evil Dead’ Remake Straight from NYCC
The first image from the “Evil Dead” remake has surfaced at New York Comic Con this weekend! The first trailer was screened for attendees, however we’ll have to make do with a detailed description for the time being.
Bloody Disgusting’s “man on the scene” called the trailer “insane” and confirms the thoughts that the film will be very R-rated. The very first footage was shown live at the event and while we don’t get to see it quite yet, Bloody Disgusting’s correspondent, Lonmonster, provides an excellent description:
Starts with camera going into forest in the Sam Raimi POV style from the original. The group of friends uncover the cellar door, which is already smeared with blood. They open the book of the dead and it cuts again to the first person camera. He reads from the book and then everything goes crazy with quick shots. A voice over says “We’re all going to die tonight”. The dead rise from the ground, and they look amazing, wet, bloody, and scary. Cuts to a girl slicing her mouth open with a knife, then someone on fire screaming, and then to someone chopping off their arm with a chainsaw. There was a tease of Jane Levy being held by vines, slowly crawling up her legs. Cuts to a dead girl splitting her tongue in half with a rusty blade.
If you still have reservations about the remake, Bruce Campbell was on hand to reassure fans as he explained, “These people want hot thespians covered in buckets in blood with a new director hand-picked by Sam Raimi himself. You need horror with blood flowing down the screen. You can be the judge, but we did not screw you over.” Alvarez went on to say, “I wanted to make a movie with horrible fear, the gore, the violence, that’s what we wanted in the new one. It’s hardcore horror, brutal violent, gory.”
The remake, directed by Fede Alvarez, appears to be very much in line with the original based on the official description, “five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.” Starring Jane Levy (who does amazing work on Suburgatory! You may also know her from Shameless), Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, Elizabeth Blackmore and with Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell’s blessing (both hold producer credits on the film), it appears that most doubts we may have had can safely be traded in for anticipation.
When the new “Evil Dead” hits theatres in April 2013 I have a feeling we’re in for a bloody good time. What do you think?
