TIFF Presents: X-Men Master Gordon Smith Exhibition
TIFF presents a new, very geeky, exhibition X-Men Master: Gordon Smith beginning next week Canadian Film Gallery (at the TIFF Lightbox). The exhibition will run from August 17th 2012 to March 31st 2013. This free exhibition is designed to celebrate and explore Smith’s groundbreaking special effects make up work in the first two X-Men films.

X-Men Master: Gordon Smith explores the process by which Smith developed and applied his silicone prosthetic technology with artifacts that Smith preserved after their use in the films. Spotlighting seven characters — Wolverine, Mystique, Senator Kelly, Lady Deathstrike, Sabretooth, Toad, and Nightcrawler — the exhibition allows visitors to get a close-up look at the extraordinary effort and detail used to make these comic-book creations come alive on the screen. This is an invaluable opportunity to study and salute the work of a true film artist, whose work has had an enormous impact on the film industry both in Canada and worldwide. (TIFF)
To kick of the exhibition TIFF will be showing X-Men on August 16th and X-Men 2 on August 18th at the Lightbox Theatre. Click here for screening and ticket details.
Beyond the free exhibition, beginning in September there will be free guided tours of the exhibition, a special behind the scenes X-Men Curator Tour on Dec 6th ($12) and on October 30th, Gordon Smith present at an informal in person appearance including a Q&A ($12). Find all the tour info here.
