PAX EAST 2012 Day Two – Lollipop Chainsaw
How was day two of PAX? Pretty goddamn glorious. Break dancing zombies, incredibly detailed costumes, and epic giveaways made Saturday the best day so far.
I was able to get the jump on a few of the games before the show opened and thank god I did because the lines are enormous!
The first game I got my hands on was Lollipop Chainsaw. I had no idea what to expect and to be honest, my initial reaction to the trailer was a resounding “UGH!” but, I wanted to give it shot. Of all the games I played yesterday, Lollipop Chainsaw was hands down the most fun which was pleasantly surprising!
The controls are easy to learn and right away you feel badass even though you’re running around as Juliet Starling, an over the top, cheerleader who totes around San Romero High with a pink chainsaw and her boyfriend’s disembodied head. The chainsaw isn’t your only weapon either. I was only able to play for 10 minutes but in that time I was sawing zombies in half, kicking their ass with crazy hack n slash moves and blowing up heads with a comically large gun. Switching between heavy weapons and light attacks was seamless and felt organic making the game play exciting and entertaining.
I never thought I’d say this but, I’ll definitely be picking up Lollipop Chainsaw when it drops in June. The thought of using her boyfriend’s head as a zombie killing weapon is just too good to pass up.
I’m off to get my wub wub on in Borderlands 2 and bring you more convention awesome. If you’re at PAX, I’ll see you on the floor!
