8-Bit Google Maps – NES Style!

Today and today only Google has gone low tech and is now previewing their “Quest” mode on Google Maps.

You know, I actually hope they keep this feature since I need yet another distraction at work. My day would go something like this:

Sara: “Uhhh G33KBOT, the site is acting funny again and my email is being wonky”
Jess: “G33KBOT WHERE’S MY DAMN TEA!”
Laura: *stares blankly at screen*
G33KBOT: “Gawd you guys, I’m QUESTING and looking for Monsters around the office. Don’t you care about your safety?”

Now, according to Google, they are previewing this for their update for NES. You’ll be able to:

– View 8-bit landmarks
– Be a hero, explore the world
– Find hidden monsters

8-bit Quest Maps is our Beta Maps technology and has certain system requirements. Your system may not meet the minumum requirements for 8-bit computations.

Ok wait, WHAT?? “Your system may not meet the minimum requirements for 8-bit computations” What are you running over there, an abacus?

Here’s a video below explaining what they’ve done.
