5 Questions With Courage My Love
Courage My Love has quite a wide range of experience under their belt. Playing for Gene Simmons, gaining Kevin Smith’s eternal blessing via their song ‘I Sell Comics’, touring Japan, a YouTube “reality” show, and having three videos hit heavy rotation on MuchMusic and MusiquePlus, to name a few things.
Wait, here’s the best part: Everything so far happened before they were even legal age to drink.
Yup. When Courage My Love exploded onto the local scene 3 years ago, twin sisters Mercedes and Phoenix Arn-Horn were only 16, and then-bassist David Blake-Dickson, 18. Now, with a second album released today (grab it on iTunes!), a tour just around the corner, and Brandon Lockwood now on bass, the Kitchener trio is stronger than ever, and not about to slow down anytime soon.
If you love pop punk, and bands like Paramore and Hey Monday!, you’ll love Courage My Love. Their sophomore album, ‘Becoming’ (grab it above, or listen to it streaming on MuchMusic’s website), features the similar mix of upbeat heavy rock, with some total feels-inducing ballads mixed in, as their debut release, ‘For Now’… but with a sound that really shows how much they’ve all grown not only as artists, but as individuals. I’ve listened to it countless times already. Highly recommended.
I luckily got a few minutes of their time (trust me, these guys are BUSY) for a quick interview before they make their way out to the east coast. Don’t forget to scroll down to the bottom of the article to check out their new video for ‘You Don’t Know How’.
GEEKPR0N: Describe Courage My Love in 140 characters or less.
Mercedes: We’re a band and we like to party.
Phoenix: 3 cat lovers.
Brandon: Party.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and what would you do with it?
Mercedes: I would love the power of teleportation. Touring would be insanely easy and I could visit anywhere and anyone in the world!
Phoenix: The power to move stuff with my mind. How sweet would that be?!
Brandon: The power to have all the powers.
Who would be on the bill of your dream tour; dead, alive or fictional?
Mercedes: Joan Jett please!!
Phoenix: Jimmy Eat World, Brand New, and us haha! Just so I can hear them live every night!
Brandon: Every Time I Die, Architects, D.R.U.G.S., The Holly Springs Disaster, and a DJ that plays til the sun comes up.
Star Trek or Star Wars?
Mercedes: Star Wars, obviously!
Phoenix: Star Wars! Come on!!!
Brandon: Star Wars.
What have you been up to lately, and what can we look forward to coming up from Courage My Love?
Mercedes: We just put out the music video for our first single off our new EP “Becoming” and we’re about to go on tour supporting the record! We’re hoping to do a lot of touring this year with “Becoming”, as well as return to Japan and go to new places like Australia and the UK. It’s gonna be a crazy crazy year!
CML’s official album release show (which is free, so I expect to see you there) is TONIGHT, June 11th at the Horseshoe in Toronto. Check out their Facebook Page for more tour dates. They’ll be all over southern Ontario before heading out to the east coast, and will be back to play Warped Tour on July 5th.
