The 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards Recap

The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards delivered a few woah moments and some unexpected wins! Perhaps the biggest surprise wins of the evening were Steven Moffat winning for writing on Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch winning for Lead Actor for Sherlock and Martin Freeman winning for Supporting Actor for Sherlock…cue the Sherlockian screams! It was nice to see so much Sherlock love, it’s quite a great show with outstanding actors.

Billy Crystal honored the late Robin Williams in a beautiful tribute with stories about their friendship.“I spent many hours on stage with Robin and the brilliance was astounding. His relentless energy was thrilling. I used to think if I could just put a saddle on him and stay on for eight seconds I would do okay,” Crystal said. He talked about how Robin could be funny at any moment and that he’s the greatest friend you could ever imagine. He ended it with, “Robin Williams, what a concept”. They showed a montage of some of his talk show appearances and comedy skits.

There was lots of love for Breaking Bad and Sherlock. Fargo snagged a few awards, but a few surprises I thought were The Normal Heart not winning a lot of the awards they were up for. Not a lot of love for Game of Thrones and as usual, Modern Family came out on top for comedy. Another surprise was True Detective not winning as much as we all expected.
