10 Original NES Games Based on Horror Movies
When Nintendo came out in the 80’s, it was THE thing. Everyone had an NES. There was no way to save the game, the graphics were horrible, and the music was hypnotizing. Remember having to literally blow on the cartridge to get that sucker to work after a while? It must have looked really dumb. What was cool about the NES was that, alas, you could play your favorite movie in GAME form! Even if the game totally sucked, the cover was always cool. I have always been a fan of horror movies, since I was a kid, and I really liked the horror games on NES. So I figured WHAT THE HELL?! In the spirit of Halloween, let’s take a walk down memeory lane into the 80’s and early 90’s, and revisit the 10 best NES games based on horror movies.
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Fight Freddy Kruger and escape the boiler room! DON’T FALL ASLEEP!
Friday the 13th
Escape the clutches of Jason Voorhees as a councelor at Camp Crystal Lake!
Toxic Crusaders
Toxie returns in NES form to clean up the streets of Tromaville!
Beetlejuice
Jump around and fight sand worms in awesome 8 bit fashion! IT’S SHOWTIME!
Bram Stokers Dracula
Brave Draculas castle and fight the prince of darkness!
Godzilla
Destroy Tokyo as Godzilla the king of monsters! Mothra mode also available! One of my all time faves.
Jaws
Fight sharks as Roy Scheider with harpoon guns in this Spielberg classic!
Fight the evil gremlins as Gizmo in this classic!
Ghostbusters
Who you gonna call? Like really?!?!
There were 3 Addams Family based games – the best being the one based on the movie.
So if you’re having a retro Halloween party this year, you might want to track some of these down to make it authentic – that is, if you still have a working NES. And remember, don’t forget to blow on the cartridge – you’ll feel like you’re 6 again 😉
